After a day playing with the other puppies at doggie day care, dinner, and a short nap, he settles on the deck facing the setting sun, surveying his little kingdom.
What is Toby thinking about? Is he watching the birds looking for worms? Does he ponder his eventful day? Or is he simply at peace?

You're right and the quote applies to my own contemplation as I wonder where I'm going in the next part of life's journey. Gratitude is a good thing to contemplate.
I think it must be wonderful to have a mind that is free of endlessly planning ahead!
He's thinking he loves the calm, serenity of the days end and of course his Mom! :)
Perhaps he's thinking "What can I do to make Amy's life more interesting tomorrow?" ;)
